Her fingers slipped on the blood-soaked key but she drew it out carefully.
Her fingers, now numb from the poison, fumbled and the key slipped from her grasp. Desperately she felt around with her toe, trying to grip the key and bring it back to her lock. She caught the key on her big toe and started to lift it to her hand. The toe and hand met. She clutched at the key, but it slipped through her fingers, falling to the floor again.

Feature Post

Check out interesting snippets from a recent article published on Tripfiction as Marilyn Baron shares her love of Italy and Greece.
I love to travel and set most of my books in places I’ve visited. I’ve set three romantic thrillers in foreign locales...and my latest book, released in January 2018, The Siege: A Novel, set in Florence, Italy, and Chania, on the Greek island of Crete. Setting is always like a character in my books.
-----------------------
The Siege, a contemporary woman’s fiction,... transports the reader back in time to World War II Crete, so it has historical elements and it is also a thriller (when the book opens, the hero and heroine are trapped in his honeymoon suite during a terrorist attack on their hotel in Florence, Italy).
-----------------------
When I decided to write The Siege, I interviewed the man whose family was from Rhodes, and who generously shared their story about emigrating from the island, memories of his visit to Rhodes and life in the Sephardic Jewish community.

Book Review: The Siege by Marilyn Baron

Review

Entertaining and Enlightening Rating: 4 Stars
The Siege is a wonderful, historical read, especially about this little known fact about the Jews in Crete. This to me was the highlight of the story; a well crafted story that will open the eye of readers on the plight of Jews in Crete. I love how Marilyn Baron wrote it, how it could've gone down during that time, and the bittersweet love story between Theo and Eleni.
Theia, the main female lead, had a mission on her trip to Italy and Greece -- to look for answers about her grandfather after seeing letters from her grandmother. She didn't want to be distracted, but she wasn't expecting to meet Wade during the trip either. She eventually found herself attracted to Wade and his persistence and patience must've convinced her to give them a chance. What unfolded was a fascinating journey into the past as well as how it affected Theia in the present.
The Siege started off with a promising and intriguing scenario -- a chance meeting between Theia and Wade and an unbelievable hotel hostage had all the makings of a wonderful storyline. I honestly was surprised this initial tension quickly abated, and then the real story unfolded. It was a nice surprise nevertheless. There were a few moments where I felt the pace of the story slowed down a little, but overall I find it a nice evening read.

Excerpt

“Go back to your room,” the American tour director ordered, shouting at the woman.
“I can’t get the door to open,” Theia protested, thrusting her key card at him in frustration.
The tour director hurriedly took the proffered card in sweaty hands and tried the lock, which didn’t click. He jammed the key card into the slot again, to no avail.
A man opened the door and stuck his head out of the room. “What’s wrong? Is this some kind of a fire drill?”
“It’s no drill. Get back in your room and shelter in place until I give the all-clear. Don’t open the door to anyone.”
The tour director returned Theia’s card. “Get back in your room with your husband.”
“This is my room, but he’s not my husband,” Theia insisted.
“There must be some kind of mistake,” the man in the room announced. “This is my room.”
The tour director grabbed the woman’s key card again and examined the key holder. He shook his head, rolled his eyes, and looked at Theia like she was a recalcitrant child. “You’re on the wrong floor, miss. This is Room 515. You’re in Room 415.”
“I’m sorry.” Theia blew out a breath and turned to leave. The tour director blocked her way.
“Excuse me, but I need to get back to my room.” Tears of exhaustion pooled in her eyes. She wanted to scream.
“I’m afraid you can’t go anywhere. We’ve disabled the elevators for your safety, and hotel security is blocking the stairs, for now.” He ushered her into Room 515 and pushed her into the arms of the man standing at the door.

New Release + Giveaway: Sherlock Holmes and the Mystery of Einstein's Daughter by Tim Symonds

Here's a post on my favorite detective of all time!

Another adventure brings Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson face to face with Albert Einstein
Sherlock Holmes and the Mystery of Einstein's Daughter
SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE
MYSTERY OF EINSTEIN'S DAUGHTER
Tim Symonds
Genre: Mystery
Publisher: MX Publishing
Publication Date: January 13, 2014
The Dean of a Swiss university persuades Sherlock Holmes to investigate the background of a would-be lecturer. To Dr. Watson it seems a very humdrum commission - but who is the mysterious 'Lieserl'? How does her existence threaten the ambitions of the technical assistant level III in Room 86 at the Federal Patents Office in Berne by the name of Albert Einstein? The assignment plunges Holmes and Watson into unfathomable Serbia to solve one of the intractable mysteries of the 20th Century.
In Tim Symonds' previous detective novels, Sherlock Holmes and the Dead Boer At Scotney Castle and Sherlock Holmes And The Case Of The Bulgarian Codex the author based pivotal historic facts and a principal character on real life. So too in this new mystery.
“Einstein’s Daughter by Tim Symonds takes the reader back to the early years of the 20th Century. It is an enjoyable romp for both Sherlock Holmes fans and for history buffs. The story is based on a true fact of Albert Einstein’s life and it is interwoven with Sherlockian grace. There are many Holmes pastiches, but Symonds manages to find the true voice of Conan Doyle.”
- Yvonne Beltzer

About Tim Symonds

Tim Symonds was born in London, England, and grew up in Somerset, Dorset and the Channel Island of Guernsey, off the coast of Normandy. After spending his late teens farming in the Kenya Highlands and driving bulldozers along the Zambezi River, he moved to California and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UCLA with an honours degree in Politics.
He lives in the ancient woodland known as the High Weald of Sussex, where the events recounted in Sherlock Holmes and The Dead Boer at Scotney Castle took place. His second novel, Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Bulgarian Codex (MX Publishing 2012), took Holmes and Watson into the very depths of the Balkans in 1900. Holmes and Watson were back in the region – Serbia - in Sherlock Holmes And The Mystery of Einstein’s Daughter (MX Publishing 2014), and not long afterwards in ‘Stamboul’ investigating a plot against the despotic Sultan, in Sherlock Holmes And The Sword of Osman (MX Publishing 2015).

Book Tour + Excerpt and Giveaway: Stormy Weather by Glen Ebisch

From Multi-Published Mystery Author
Glen Ebisch
A mysterious death involving a meteorologist...
Can she weather the storm brewing in the horizon?
Stormy Weather
STORMY WEATHER
Glen Ebisch
Genre: Mystery
Publisher: The Wild Rose Press
Publication Date: January, 2017
A dead meteorologist leads to stormy weather.
When the body of Travis Lambert, senior meteorologist, is found buried in a shallow grave next to the house of Stormy McCloud, junior meteorologist, things look bad.
The station hires Chance Malone to investigate the murder, but her situation doesn't improve. Malone is attractive, charming, and funny, all qualities that her past experience with men has led her to avoid. It doesn't help that Stormy has little interest in religion, while Malone is the unusual detective that keeps a Bible in his desk drawer instead of a bottle of scotch.
When Stormy's estranged mother appears on the scene, things become even more complicated. As they discover more about the dark secrets of Travis's life, Stormy is forced to reconsider her view of men, her mother, and her future.
Author Glen Ebisch's mystery suspense crime novel, Stormy Weather is a first-rate thriller. I found a solid story-line, well-written, with well-developed characters, and plot lines which will hold the readers interest.
- verasbookreviewsandstuff, Amazon Reviewer
This book has quite a bit of mystery of where you reveal each piece a layer at a time. You learn one thing about the victim from his co-workers and then you dig a little deeper and you learn something else.

An Excerpt From Stormy Weather

A straight-backed wooden chair stood in the center of the room. I was forced to sit there. As I watched with growing fear of what was going to happen next, the two men arranged themselves around the room. The chauffeur, who had cold, light blue eyes, stood directly in front of me. Adams moved to my extreme left and leaned against the front of a desk.

“Now that you’ve had some time to consider the situation, Ms. McCloud, are you ready to tell me the whereabouts of my property?”

“I’m afraid that I still don’t know where your property is.”

I tried to sound firm and reasonable but my voice was a little high and it shook.

“Before we begin, perhaps you should tape her wrists together,” Adams said.

The chauffeur took a roll of gray duct tape off of an end table and approached me. As he moved toward me, I saw that he wore a gun on his left side.

“Stand up,” he ordered.

I got to my feet.

I probably would not have been able to do what I did next if I’d had time to think about it. But I knew that once my hands were bound, it was all over.

“Turn around,” he ordered.

I started to turn but then pretended to stumble toward him. He automatically reached out with his empty right hand to steady me. As I stumbled I twisted to my right and pulled the gun out of his holster, then I took a quick step backwards, knocking over the chair. Recognizing it by feel alone, I thanked my lucky stars that he was carrying another Glock.

He took a step towards me but something in my face caused him to stop. I glanced over at Adams, but he kept his hands at his sides. I hoped he was unarmed.

“Don’t be silly, Ms. McCloud. This will only make things worse,” Adams said.

He nodded toward the chauffeur, who reluctantly moved toward me.

The vase on the table next to his right arm exploded into fragments. He jumped to his left. Then he looked at his right hand, which had begun to bleed.

“Another step and I start aiming at people,” I said.
